Rocky Isles Singers

The Rocky Isles Singers are a vibrant and community-engaged ensemble that quickly became a cornerstone of musical life on the Northeast Avalon. Led by Artistic Directors Michael Davis and Jenn Hanley, this non-auditioned singing group of fifty-seven members has delighted audiences since 2022. The group has long been a dream of the Torbay Folk Arts Council dedicated to preserving cultural heritage while embracing musical diversity. Song selections span the rich traditions of Irish and Newfoundland music, songs from Labrador, timeless classics, pop, and rock (some with intricate harmonies). The group takes pride in showcasing the talents of members with solo and small group performances, plus original songs and recitations composed and performed by members.

The Rocky Isles Singers are committed to sharing their music and giving back to the community, such as coordinating concerts and delivering performances for seniors, outdoor Tree Lighting Ceremonies, local churches, and fundraising for the Northeast Avalon Food Bank. To date, they have raised a total $14 000 for the various community organizations. In May, the group will be taking their talents on the road. In partnership with the Cape Broyle Church Committee, they will be performing a Sunday afternoon concert in Cape Broyle.

The group sang for a movie, Sweet Angel Baby, by SAB productions and provided entertainment Kitchen Party style at an International Convention for the MUN School of Nursing. They further delight audiences with guest performances by some of Newfoundland’s finest musicians, Chris Andrews, Paddy Moran, Jackie Sullivan, Sullivan’s Songhouse, and The Concert Crowd. Two very special performances during their last Christmas concert featured nine-year-old Jack Davis-Hanley and 90-year-old member Kay Molloy.

Limerick Sings International Choral Festival is an annual event held in Ireland. To help achieve their musical dreams of attending, hearing the music of others, and sharing Newfoundland and Labrador’s culture, the group hosted “Rocky Isles in the Ocean” fundraising concerts. The Rocky Isles Singers will be the first from Newfoundland & Labrador to participate in the festival. Members are proud to represent their communities and the province at this prestigious event. Most of all, members enjoy the supportive, generous, and fun atmosphere at practices and concerts.
