Our History & Mission
Torbay Folk Arts Council Inc. was formed in February 2016 as the first step in organizing the various arts disciplines, as well as the artists that work in these disciplines, in the Town of Torbay.
Our stated purpose is to preserve, promote and celebrate the rich heritage and culture of the Town of Torbay.
To accomplish this we feel that we must get all the people involved in the arts, as well as those with an interest in seeing our heritage and culture preserved, promoted and celebrated. This includes in particular, the Town of Torbay, who have taken great steps to ensure this heritage and cultural development takes place.
The Torbay Folk Arts Council has been the beneficiary of the Town of Torbay’s commitment in its’ support of our organization by providing the means to get the council organized and started on its’ quest for excellence.
Community Involvement
Even though we will be supporting all age groups in our goals, we will be focusing on our young people in particular. We want to ensure that there is an ongoing legacy here to keep our children involved in the arts, so that they will develop a sense of community and have pride in the town, and in their contributions to our culture.
One way we plan to do this is to get the young people talking to our older residents, who can pass along their knowledge of Torbay history and to put the kids on the road to creating their own history.
