Join us for a week of fun and fundraising inspired by the book by Lara Maynard ("Solomon Gosse's Birthday: Songs, Poems and Recipes from Torbay and Neighbouring Towns," Torbay Heritage Committee,1998).


Here's a lineup of the week's festivities:

1. Saturday, October 14th - Jigg's Dinner! ...hosted by Torbay Lion's Club, Musical entertainment provided by Torbay Folk Arts Council.

Where: Holy Trinity Parish Hall, Convent Lane.

When: There are 3 sittings: 4 pm, 5 pm and 6 pm. Take-out dinners will be available between 4:30 and 5:30 pm. 

Cost: Tickets are $15 (cash only) in advance by Oct. 11th, available at: Torbay Town Hall, Flatrock Town Hall, The Traditional Coffee House and Deli, and Torbay Public Library.

Note: 50/50 tickets will be sold here and at other events throughout the week and the winner will be drawn at the Concert and Closing Ceremony on Oct. 21st. The winner will not have to be in attendance.

2. ​Monday, October 16th - Children's Poetry and Music Night - Winners of the Torbay Public Library Poetry Contest for grades 5-7 Torbay area students will be reading their poetry. Music organized by Torbay Folk Arts Council.

Where: Torbay Public Library

When: 7 p.m.

Cost: Free (donations welcome)

2. ​Tuesday October 17th - Teddy Bear Sleepover 

Drop your teddy bears off at the library on Tues., Oct. 17th between 7-8 pm for a sleepover at Torbay Public Library, and pick them up Thurs., Oct. 19th between 7- 8 p.m. Meanwhile, library volunteers will supervise the teddy bears and document whatever they get up to!

3. Wednesday, October 18th - Paint Night with Brenda Rowe

Paint this iconic Torbay scene.

Where: Holy Trinity High School Cafeteria

When: 6:30 p.m.

How: Tickets must be purchased (cash only), in advance at Torbay Public Library during the following hours:

  • Mon 6:30-8:30 pm
  • Tues 10 am-12 pm, 1:30-4:30 pm, 6:30-8:30 pm
  • Wed 9 am-12 pm, 1:30-4:30 pm
  • Thurs 1:30-4:30 pm, 6:30-8:30 pm​

Cost: $45, cash only

4. Thursday, October 19th - Adult Storytelling, Recitations and Music (from the book Solomon Gosse's Birthday)

Where: Torbay Public Library

When: 7-8:30 p.m.

Cost: Free (donations welcome)

5. Friday, October 20th - Let's Play Family Feud!

Where: Soccer Building, Three Corner Pond Park, Bauline Line

When: 7 p.m.

Cost: Admission: $5

We are looking for 2 families to play the FEUD.

​We are looking for 2 families from the Torbay, Bauline, Flatrock and Pouch Cove area to play Family Feud. Family Feud is part of the fundraiser for Solomon Gosse's Birthday. Family Feud will be held at The new Multi-purpose building at 3 Corner park on Bauline Line, Friday October 20 at 7pm. Entries will be taken up to 4 pm Monday October 16th. If more than 2 teams enter, we will draw for the winners at the poetry reading event at the Library Monday night. Teams will consist of 5 players minimum age 17yrs.Teams can email Derrick at TorbayFolk@gmail.com.

5. Saturday, October 21st - Concert and Closing Ceremony 

Where: Holy Trinity High School Gym

When: 7 - 9 p,m.

Cost: Admission at the door - $10 adults, $5 students.

Musical Lineup: Craig Ryan, Kelly Hickey and Jodie Fleming Hynes, Nichole Kirkland and Terrilyn Noseworthy, Jenna Maloney, The McGrath Family, Ashleen Molloy and Kaherine Ledwell, Bill Hynes and Paul Nolan, Master Storyteller Gary Green, Torbay Folk Group (Jed Whitty, Kathleen Molloy, Lionel Clarke, Sharron O'Toole, Lionel Clarke, Ralph Tapper, Derrick Dymond).
